MINESWEEPER-INSPIRED TACTICS GAME, KATJA'S ABYSS: TACTICS, RELEASES ON STEAM

April 23, 2021  Game developer Kiefer Nemeth releases Katja's Abyss: Tactics for PC and Linux on Steam. After a successful launch on Itch.io earlier this month, Katja's entering the fray on Steam.

What is Katja's Abyss?

In this turn-based tactical game, you follow Katja, Head Researcher at the Echo Mining Corp, into the deadly caves within the mountain, Montmane. Lead units to dig through caves brimming with powerful energy while fending off mutated monsters. With charming pixel art graphics and minesweeper-inspired strategy mechanics, Katja's Abyss: Tactics is sure to suck in any fan of strategy and tactics games.

"One day I was playing Minesweeper, and I got frustrated when one mistake lost me the whole level!" With this inspiration, Kiefer Nemeth went on to design a system that places controllable units on a map where they move and navigate mines, or "Nodes," hidden in the cave walls. If you hit a Node, the unit digging it is lost, but you can fight on! There are a variety of units you can enlist, like the miner or scout, with unique active and passive abilities, giving many strategic options to deal with threats. Katja's Abyss also gives the player a sense of progression, with an 8-level campaign with authored missions and in-game collectibles.
